We have three sets of guidlines for members of NAChatroom.org. The general guidelines apply to all people entering the room. The OP and Greeter guidelines contain special instructions for trusted servants placed in those positions. Please take some time to read over the appropriate guidlines. Thanks!

General Guidelines

NA Chatroom needs to be a place were addicts can feel safe. To protect our members and carry out our primary purpose, which is to help the addict who still suffers, we have created a set of guidlines. Violation of any of these rules can be grounds for an immediate ban. Please report any serious violations to an op.

  • What you see here and who you see here let it stay here in the practice of anonymity.
  • We ask that you do not private message (PM) room members of the oppisite sex unless they are channel operators (have the @ by their name).
  • We ask that you refrain from excessive use of profanity.
  • Sexually explicit chat or harassment of members will not be tolerated. Excessive flirting is also discouraged.
  • We will not tolerate verbal threats.
  • We ask that no drug specific talk is used in the chat room as it may cause other members to crave.
  • We do not endorse any outside organizations or other 12 step fellowships.
  • Because we do not endorse other 12 step fellowships, we ask that you do not quote from the literature of other 12 step programs.
  • Please do not give out your email, phone numbers or addresses in open chat.
  • The views and opinions of the members of #nachatroom are their own. We do not speak for NA as a whole.
  • We are not doctors. If you have a serious medical condition, or are contemplating suicide, we cannot help you. Please contact emergency services.
  • The primary purpose of nachatroom is to carry the NA message to the still sick and suffering addict.

OP Guidelines

Being an operator in nachatroom.org is an important service position in our homegroup. Our goal as operators is to promote NA's primary purpose, which is to "carry the message to the addict who still suffers." We do this by removing hostile and disruptive members from the room and gently re-focusing others who inadvertently violate our guidelines. The following list lays out some basic policies we should follow as ops, in order that, in a spirit of love, we can best fulfill our purpose.

  • Please be kind.
  • Please discourage specific drug talk.
  • Do not endorse any other fellowships.
  • Do not give medical advice.
  • Identify as addicts only.
  • Use only your first name.
  • Do not give out links to websites other then na.org, nachatroom.org, naranon.com or links found at www.na.org.
  • Ops may use any information that can be accessed through www.na.org to assist the still suffering addict.
  • Do not give out email addresses in room.
  • Do not give out your personal information in the room.
  • Stay familiar with room guidelines and follow them.
  • Address all violations of room guidelines immediately. If and op is here they are responsible for keeping this room safe and based on NA principles.
  • Op in when addressing issues.
  • Report any warnings, silence or kicks to other op’s.
  • Remember to be here for the newcomer share experience strength and hope the NA way.
  • When in doubt refer to NA literature.
  • Encourage addicts to get to face to face meetings.
  • Try to get addicts phone line numbers in their area.
  • Do not refer other chatrooms.
  • If someone is talking about suicide tell them to call 911. We are not equipped for this kind of help.

  • This is not a pick-up room. Help to keep the room safe by warning chatters who are focused on hooking up.
  • If you leave please put Away after your name.
