NAChatroom Mission Statement

It is our mission to carry the message of recovery to the suffering addict who has a desire to stop using. We do this by helping the addict to find their way to face to face meetings, and by getting them hotline numbers in their area. Although many addicts will be tempted to rely solely on online NA meetings to stay clean, we have found this has not proved sufficient to sustain long term recovery. It has however become a valuable resource in addition to regular NA meeting attendance and face to face sponsorship.

The www.NA.org website is our greatest tool for finding a meeting in their region or area, or we can do a phone line search by area code. There are also many other resources available at the NA.org website such as online literature, World service bulletins, NA events, newsletters, and literature sales.

For many addicts entering NAChatRoom.org, this is their first exposure to Narcotics Anonymous. It is our responsibility to help them to feel welcome, comfortable and accepted, to find out if they are new to NA, and work together to help them find a new way of life. We accomplish this by keeping an atmosphere of recovery in the chatroom.

An atmosphere of recovery in our groups is one of our most values assets, and we must guard it carefully, lest we lose it to politics and personalities. We must remember that group officers [greeters ops and admin] have been placed in trust, that we are trusted servants, and that at no time do any of us govern. (Tradition Two Basic Text page 61).

Although we do have guidelines we must remember that our primary purpose is to carry the message of recovery to the addicts entering our site. We must not use our guidelines as a double edged sword, thereby alienating many sorely needed stable members, we would do well to re-evaluate and reconsider the effects of that kind of behavior. Narcotics Anonymous is a spiritual fellowship. Love, tolerance, patience, and cooperation are essential if we are to live our principles.

Let's devote our energies to our personal spiritual development through our own Twelve Steps. Let's carry our own message clearly. There's a lot of work to be done, and we need each other if we are to be effective. Let's move forward in a spirit of NA unity.
